They wanted a system of peaceful resistance in which a voluntary parliament would be formed as a form of defiance against the British government.
What were the impacts of the constitutional crisis?
The Liberals lost overall majority in the House of Commons. There was now a minority government and the Irish Nationalist MPs held most of the power. This ended up with the passing of the Parliament Act of 1911. This therefore put Irish Home Rule at the top of the political agenda.
