Explain the use of corticosteroids for preventing IRDS

A

Used pre-birth to encourage the maturation of lungs, gut, brain, etc
- promotes the development of type 1 and 2 epithelial cells (which increases surfactant production)

A

Infant respiratory distress syndrome. = insufficient surfactant production
