IR Study Guide Flashcards
What supplies are used for the Seldinger Technique?
a hollow needle (introducer needle), a guidewire, and a catheter
When do you use the Seldinger Technique?
whenever a minimally invasive access to a blood vessel or hollow organ is needed
How to use the Seldinger Technique?
Insert needle into blood flow
advance guidewire through the needle
remove needle leaving guidewire inside vessel
insert sheath/catheter over guidewire and into vessel
remove guidewire
What is digital subtracted angiography(DSA)?
a diagnostic imaging procedure that uses X-rays to image blood vessels.
How does digital subtracted angiography(DSA) work?
A catheter is inserted into a blood vessel
A contrast dye is injected into the blood
X-ray images are taken before and after the dye injection
The first image is subtracted from the second image, making the blood vessels more visible
What is PNTP?
percutaneous nephrostomy tube placement
What is Percutaneous Nephrostomy Tube Placement(PNTP) used for?
external drainage in obstructed collecting system
relieving buildup of urine to prevent damage
decompress a blocked/stenotic/hydronephrotic collecting system
basically to drain stuff from kidney cause something is not letting it drain normally
List the spinal cord anatomy from cephalic to caudal
pons
medulla oblongata
spinal cord
cauda equina
List the major abdominal veins from superior to inferior
hepatic vein, renal vein, portal vein, femoral vein
What are the type of central lines place in IR?
Central Venous Catethers(CVC):
PICC
Hickman
Subcutaneous Port
What are the types of embolization agents?
Temporary
Gel Foam
Vasoconstrictors: vasopressin, pitressen
Permanent
Silicone Beads/Polyvinal Alcohol(PVA)
Stainless steel coils
detachable ballons
gulue/onyx
What is embolization?
stopping/reducing blood flow to an area
