IR Spectrometry Flashcards
What is IR spectrometry
IR waves going through a molecule, the molecule responds by stretching and bending
What is the range?
667cm-1 (low energy) on the right.
4000cm-1 (high energy) on the left.
What area is the finger print zone?
1599-1000cm-1
What is located around 3600?
O-H alcohol stretch. Band is broad and blobby. High energy dipole moment
What’s at 3500-3300?
N-H stretch. Two peaks is R-NH2. One peak is R-NH-R.
Where is C-C bond?
1000-1200
Where is C=C bond located?
1600-1660 usually 1650
If at 1600 it conjugated
Two C=C bonds are 1620
Three C=C bonds (conjugated benzene ring) 1600
Where is triple bonded Carbon bond?
2100-2200
Where is C-O bond located?
1000-1300
Where is C=O bond?
Big dip around 1700 usually conjugated. Keytones 1705, esters 1725-1746
Where are C-N bonds?
1000-1200
Where are C=N bonds?
1650
Where are C triple bond N bonds?
Nitrile
2200
Where are alkane located?
C-H stretch is at 2900
How do you know a carboxylic Acid?
O-H stretch and C=O stretch
