IPv6 Header Flashcards
Version
A forbid field that indicates that IP version being used, and is always set to a value of 6 for IPV6 headers
Traffic class
A 8-bit field used to indicate their priority of the packet, and is typically divided into a six bit differentiated services code point DSCP field and a two bit explicit congestion modification ECN field performed the same function as an IP V4, TOS byte
Flow label
A 20 bit field used to identify a group of packets as belonging to a single stream 
Payload length
A 16 bit field used to indicate how many bytes are contained in the payload 
Next header
An eight bit field used to indicate the next type of header encapsulated in the IP V6 packet. Typically a layer for protocol such as TCP or UDP. 
Hop limit
An eight bit field used to prevent routing loops by being the incremented by one at each router hop until the packet is discarded when the hop
limit =0. Replaces the IP V4 TTL field. 
Source address
A 128 bit field that indicates the IPV six address of the sender
Designation address
A 128 bit field that indicates the IPv6 address of the receiver
