What is IPE?
Definition - interprofessional education occurs when students from two or more professions learn about, from and with each other to enable effective collaboration and improve health outcomes“ (world Health organization, 2010)
What is the goal of IPE?
Goal of IPE - to prepare health professional students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for collaborative interprofessional practice
Why is IPE important?
- Patient safety and health care quality
- Communication lacking among health care practitioners
- Proliferating professions, increasing silos, competition
- Coping with complexity of health care delivery
- Access for medically underserved
- Health care workforce shortages

What is interprofessional collaborative practice (IPCP)?
definition - when multiple health workers from different professional backgrounds provide comprehensive services by working with patients, their families, caregivers and communities to deliver the highest quality of care across settings. (WHO)

- Manage ethical dilemmas specific to interprofessional patient / population centered care situations

Use the knowledge of one’s own role and those of other professions to appropriately assess and address the health care needs of patients and to promote and advance the health of populations. (Roles / Responsibilities)
