What are the parts of an IP address?
- Network Part (First few bits)
- Host ID (remaining bits)
What is subnetting?
Dividing up hosts on a network to make administration easier and routing more efficient
What was IP v6 introduced?
IP v4 was running out of addresses
What is a routable IP address?
globally unique IP address and can be addressed to by any other computer on the internet
What is a non-routable IP address?
An IP address that can only be accessed on a local network
What does Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol do?
DHCP automatically assigns a dynamic IP address and other networking configuration to a computer attempting to use a network
What is NAT and why is it used?
National Address Translation. Translates a Private IP address into a public one.
What is port forwarding?
Allows a remote service to access a specific client on a private network i.e. an online game
