Give URA advice (4)

A
  1. Will be uncomfortable at start
    - Means its working
  2. Big+bulky
    - Will get used to it
  3. Speech may be affected
    - Practice reading out loud, tongue will adapt
  4. Salivary response
    - Excess saliva common but will pass in 24hrs

Give URA patient instruction (6)

A

Wear 24/7 - eating+drinking
Clean with soft brush after every meal
Place in container when playing sports
Avoid hard/sticky + hot foods/drinks
Non compliance will lengthen tx
Emergency contact if any issues

Checks when fitting a URA (9)

A
  1. Right appliance, right pt, right design
  2. No sharp edges
  3. Ensure integrity of wirework
  4. Ensure no signs of trauma
  5. Check posterior retention (flyover/arrowheads equally going into undercut)
  6. Check anterior retention
  7. Activate appliance (1mm/mth)
  8. Demo insertion/removal and get pt to do it
  9. Review every 4-6wks
