Ionic Bonds Flashcards
The possession of eight electrons in its outermost energy level or valence electrons.
Octet Rule
The distribution of electrons at different positions in an atom.
Electronic Configuration
They are the electrons occupying the highest energy level in an atom. Sometimes called the outermost electrons.
Valence Electrons
A system proposed by Gilbert N. Lewis is used to emphasize the atom’s valence electrons.
Lewis Electron Dot Structure (LEDS)
Compounds that are bound together by a strong attractive force.
Chemical Bond
A type of chemical bond is formed when there is a transfer of electrons from one atom to another.
Ionic Bond
An atom that becomes a positively charged particle.
Ion
An atom that loses an electron becomes a positively charged ion.
Cation
An atom that gains an electron becomes a negatively charged ion.
Anion
Ionization Energy
A measure of how much energy is released when an electron is gained by a certain atom.
