Ionic Bonding😜 Flashcards
What is the mass number?
Total number of protons and neutrons.
What is an isotope?
A different atomic form of the same element - same number of protons - different number of neutrons.
What is ionic bonding?
Atoms loosing or gaining an electron - forming charged particles (ions).
What sort of structure do ionic compounds have?
A regular lattice structure.
What properties do all ionic compounds have?
High melting and boiling points due to a strong attractions between the ions.
What is there between oppositely charged ions?
Strong electrostatic forces of attraction.
What happens when ionic compounds melt?
Ions are free to move and will carry an electric current.
Can ionic compounds dissolve easily in water?
Yes, the ions separate and are free to move.
