Q

ion bond

A

The metal atoms become positive ions and the non-metal atoms become negative ions. There is a strong electrostatic. force of attraction between these oppositely charged ions – this is called an ionic bond.

Q

High melting point

A

Ionic compounds have high melting and boiling points. The melting and boiling points of ionic compounds is usually quite high because the ions in the giant ionic lattices are held together by strong electrostatic forces of attraction which are difficult to overcome.
