Proximal Tibia

A

i. Palpate the landmarks at the proximal tibia (patella and tibial tuberosity).
ii. Insertion site should be approximately one finger width distal to the tibial tuberosity along the flat aspect of the medial tibia.
iii. If the tibial tuberosity cannot be identified on the child, then the insertion site may be two finger widths below the inferior edge of the patella, then medial along the flat aspect of the tibia

  1. Prime the tubing with 1 mL 2% lidocaine.
  2. Administer an additional 0.5 mg/kg 2% lidocaine (max 40mg = 2 mL 2% lidocaine).

Lidocaine for pediatrics <20kg

A
  1. Dilute 0.5 mL 2% lidocaine with NS to a total volume of 10 mL (final concentration = 1mg/mL)
  2. Prime the tubing with 1 mL diluted lidocaine solution.
  3. Administer an additional 0.5 mg/kg = 0.5 mL/kg diluted lidocaine.
