What is intrusive surveillance?
Covert
Carried out in relation to anything taking place on any residential premises or in a private vehicle
Involves an individual on the premises or in the vehicle, or is carried out with a surveillance device (binoculars or cameras)
For serious crime
What is property interference?
Property is entered or interfered with e.g. Interrogation of phone or computer
What surveillance techniques require authorisation?
CCTV for a covert operation (not public cctv)
If observations remained covert and involved more officers
How is directed surveillance authorised?
Superintendent +
In writing
Lasts 3 months
If urgent, a super can grant verbally for 72 hours
Of no super, an inspector can grant in writing for 72 hours
What is directed surveillance?
Covert but not intrusive
For a specific investigation or operation
Obtains private info about a person
