Investigations of Allergy Flashcards
What are the 4 types of allergy testing?
Photographs and videos
SKIN PRICK TESTS ***
Blood tests - IgE
Patch testing - contact allergy
Sensitivity and specificity difference?
Predictive values - what
Sensitive - very few false negatives
Specific - very few false positives
Likelihood for determining an outbreak or nonoutbreak of an infectious disease based on early warning results.
IgE mediated disease - HELPFUL:
2 TESTS?
Non-IgE disease - UNHELPFUL”
What WCC can be measured in the blood? - 3
What may need to be biopsied for diagnosis?
What can be used to monitor nutrition in children?
Skin prick tests
Specific IgE blood test (ImmunoCap)
Eosinophils
Basophils
Mast cells
Gut, oesophagus, skin
Nutrition growth gentiles - malnutrition
What does skin prick testing measure?
eThe measure of how allergic the patient is- may just be sensitised
What are component resolved diagnostics?
Component-resolved diagnostics (CRD), also called component resolved diagnosis is a diagnostic approach that utilizes these purified native or recombinant allergens to detect the IgE antibodies response against the individual allergenic molecules
Other tests:
What can be done for food allergies?
Food challenge - they ingest food and you wait for a reaction and have everything on standby
Challenge stopped if there is a reaction:
= If tolerates top dose = not allergic
= If reacts = allergic
= If unable to eat all doses = inconclusive
