Assessment of Allergy Flashcards
Types of IMMUNE MEDIATED allergy - 3
IgE mediated
Non-Ige mediated
Systemic allergy - anaphylaxis or FPIES
Define atopy?
An exaggerated propensity in genetically predisposed individuals to produce IgE and Non IgE responses to common ENVIRONMENTAL triggers.
What are the 5 allergy co-morbidities?
Atopic Dermatitis (Eczema)
Allergic Rhinitis – predisposes to asthma
Atopic Asthma
Allergy - Food allergy + Drug Allergy
Dual allergen exposure hypothesis - explain?
Dual allergen exposure hypothesis for pathogenesis of food allergy.
Tolerance occurs as a result of oral exposure of food, and allergic sensitisation results from cutaneous exposure.
Early exposure may result in allergy due to sensitisation.
If a child has faltering growth, they should be referred to a dietician.
This is a high risk IgE and Non IgE food allergy.
Vit D deficiency - why can eczema cause this?
Rickets - what sort of allergy causes this?
Barrier treatments - Less sun exposure
Non IgE mediated cow’s milk allergy
