Investigating the effectiveness of different materials as thermal insulators Flashcards
1
Q
How do you carry out the experiment
A
- Boil water in a kettle and pour water into a sealed container(beaker and lid)
- Measure the initial mass of the water and record the starting temperature of the water
- Seal the container and leave it for 5 minutes. Measure the time on a stopwatch.
- Remove the lid and measure the final temperature of the water
- Repeat the experiment but each time, wrap a different material around the container once sealed, making sure that the mass is the same mass as the first try and the temperature is the same
2
Q
What should the experiment tell you?
A
That the temperature difference is reduced when a thermal insulating material is used
