What is intuitionism ?
The idea that moral truths are indefinable and self evident
What is a Naturalistic fallacy ?
The idea that it is a mistake to define moral terms with reference to other non-moral or natural terms
What is Moore’s most famous quote ?
“If I am asked, ‘what is good?’, my answer is good is good, and that is the end of the matter”
What makes Intuitionism similar to naturalism ?
They are both moral realist theories
What is the main difference between Naturalism and Intuitionism ?
The way in which we come to know of the meaningfulness of moral values
What is the key error of naturalism that Moore stated ?
Naturalism in and of itself is a naturalistic fallacy
What analogy does Moore use to explain how our intuition may work ?
The analogy of attempting to describe the colour yellow
Why does Moore distinguish between complex and simple ideas ?
Because complex ideas can be split up and broken down in order tube identified, for example a horse
Moore states goodness is a simple idea, which we come to know through intuition, why ?
Because it is not something that we can break down in order to understand
Is intuitionism personal intuition/feeling ?
No because it still states good is a real thing we can intuitively recognise
