Introduction To Reproduction Flashcards
Male reproductive anatomy
Two testes: make up sperm and hormones like testosterone . The testes are located in the scrotal sac
Scrotal Sac: keeps the testes 3 to 4 body temperature cooler
Within the testes: are seminiferous tubules
Leydig cells: between the seminiferous tubules are the Leydig Cells. It produces testosterone
Within the seminiferous tubules are two cells types:
Germ cells and Sertoli Cells( support Germ cells development)
Sperm are constantly created from spermatogonia and enter into meiosis, a process of division that reduces the amount of genetic material by half.
How spm leave the body
Sperm have three parts, a head( contains the dna ) , a middle piece( contains the mitochondria, which provide the energy for the tail to propel the sperm after ejaculation) and a tail.
Sperm transported from seminiferous to> epididymus( get mature there)> move out the epididymus to the> vas deferens > Joins the seminal vesicle> Flows by the prostate gland into the urethra > Leave out the penis
