Striations are absent
Non-striated
Under CNS control
Voluntary
Under ANS control
Involuntary
-striated, voluntary
-long, cylindrical shape, multi nucleited
-nucleus is peripherally located
Skeletal Muscles
-striated, involuntary
- has branching muscle fibers
- nucleus is centrally located
Cardiac Muscles
-non-striated, involuntary
- spindle shaped, has tapering ends
Smooth Muscles
Example of Smooth muscles
Urinary Bladder, Intestine, skin (arrector pili muscle)
Functions of muscles
- Movement of skeletal framework (SKM)
- Beating of heart (CM)
- Peristalsis
- Eyeball movement
- Skin hair erection (SM)
Transport of ingesta through the GIT
Peristalsis
Responsible for erection of skin hair.
