Modern media comes in many different formats, including print media (books, magazines, newspaper), television, movies, video games, music, cell phones, various kinds of software, and the internet.
What is Literacy?
The ability to identify, understand, interpret, create, communicate, and compute, using printed and written materials associated with varying contexts.
What is Media Literacy?
The ability to access, analyze, evaluate, and create media in a variety of forms. It aims to empower citizens by providing them with the competencies (knowledge and skills) necessary to engage with traditional media and new technologies.
What is information?
A broad term that covers processed data, knowledge derived from study, experience, instruction, signals, or symbols.
Information from Studies through:
-Scientific research or experimentation
-Interviews or Surveys
-Series of Laboratory Observation and Testing, etc.
Information from experiences through:
-Observation
-Reflection
-First-hand encounter
-Learned from others, etc.
What is Information Literacy?
The ability to recognize when information is needed, and to locate, evaluate, and effectively communicate information in its various formats.
To possess or enhance information literacy, you must examine the source of the information using?
CRAAP TEST
What is the CRAAP TEST?
Currency - is the source up to date?
Relevance - is the source relevant to your research or topic?
Authority - where is the source published? who is the author? are they considered reputable and trustworthy is their field?
Accuracy - is the source supported by evidence? are the claims cited correctly?
Purpose - What was the motive behind publishing this source?
What is Technology Literacy?
The ability of an individual, either working independently or with others, to responsibly, appropriately , and effectively use technological tools.
what is Media and Information Literacy
The essential skills and competencies that allow individuals to engage with media and other information providers effectively, as well ad develop critical thinking and life-long learning skills to socialize and become active citizens.
