Tribal Age
The first period is called the tribal age and is known for the widespread use of oral communication. Prehistoric people relied on face-to-face interactions (spoken words).
Age of Literacy
This period is marked by the introduction of phonetics. The tribal people were pushed to write and express themselves. They learned also to read.

Print Age
This is known as the third period. It highlights the invention of Johannes Gutenberg which was the printed press in 15th century. This reproduced thousands of books.
Industrial Age
From 18th to 19th century, which was marked by the transition of manufacturing processes.
When was the Telegraph invented?
Around 1830
Electronic Age
The age was marked by the widespread of electric media such as radio, telegraph, film, telephone, computer, and television. This age made the planet known to be a “global village”.
New Media/Information Age
Tribal age, age of literacy, print age, and electronic age all revolved around traditional media. However, through the invention of computers and the internet new media has paved the way for the lives of the people.
