Introduction to Histology Flashcards
What are the basic tissues of the human body?
1) Epithelial tissue
2) Connective tissue
3) Muscle tissue
4) Nerve tissue
What are the classification of epithelial tissues?
- Simple endothelium = 1 layer cells
- Stratified Epithelium = 2 or more cell layers
- Pseudostratified Epithelium = Cells are all anchored to the basement membrane, but not all cells reach the apical surface (nuclei do not align, does not look like one cell layer).
- shape of the tip layer of cells = cuboidal, columnar and squamous.
What are connective tissue?
There are two main types: connective tissue proper and specialised connective tissue
What do connective tissue contain?
Many different cell types including: fibroblasts, macrophages, mast cells and adipocytes.
Connective Tissue matrix made of:
1) Ground substance - proteins and polysaccharides
2) Fibres - reticular, collagen and elastic.
What are the classifications of connective tissue proper?
1) Loose connective: Fibres & many cell types in gelatinous matrix, found in skin & surrounding blood vessels, nerves and organs.
2) Dense connectives: bundles of parallel collagen fibres and fibroblasts found in tendons and ligaments.
