Q

Bags that are red = have potassium!

important to give in patients requiring extra potassium:

  1. ORAL replacement preferred over IV
  2. Consider replacing Mg concurrently
  3. When K+ <3.0 deficitin order of 100s of mmol (might need quite alot of potassium replacement)
  4. Preferred pre mixed vs making the concentration yourself
  5. Cardiac monitoring rquired in patient with K+ <3.0 (hypokalaemic) —> (K+ replacement >10mmol/hour) !
