A
Rapid assessment of the ABC’s
- Airway
- Breathing
- Circulation (Palpate for pulse)
*IF VF arrest = EARLY Defibrillation

What does the Secondary survey consist of?
A
Definitive management of ABC’s + Causes
- Airway (ETT, other airway adjuncts)
- Breathing (O2, Ventilator support, ABG’s)
- Circulation (IV Access and Cardiac monitoring)
*Lab studies, Foley, NG tubes

What does the Reassessment consist of?
A
Frequent primary and secondary surveys.

What do you assess specifically for the airway?
A
- Airway Patency (Look, Listen, and Feel)
- Airway Protection (Swallow and Gagging)
- Airway Interventions (Protect cervical spine and prevent aspiration)

What are the interventions for Airway?
A
- Head tilt / Chin lift (NOT IF Neck Trauma)
- Jaw thrust (IF Neck Trauma)
- OPA (IF Obtunded)
“Oropharyngeal Airway” - NPA (IF Conscious/Semi and can’t OPA)4
“Nasopharyngeal Airway” - LMA (IF Can’t intubate, however does not prevent aspiration)
