INTRODUCTION TO BIOSTATISTICS - CLASS 1 Flashcards
What is Standard Error and what is the formula?
The standard error measures how accurate the mean of any given sample from a population is likely to be compared to the true population mean.
βIt is the standard deviation of the sample mean.β
π .π=π/βπ
PS - It may not always be about means.
What is Standard Deviation?
This is simply a summary measure of the difference between each observation and the mean observation. This also gives an estimate of the variation in the population.
What is a point estimate?
A point estimate is a single value (a single point) which is our βbest guessβ at the parameter we are interested in.
A good point estimate for the population mean is the sample mean.
