INTRODUCTION TO BIOSTATISTICS - CLASS 1 Flashcards

Q

What is Standard Error and what is the formula?

A

The standard error measures how accurate the mean of any given sample from a population is likely to be compared to the true population mean.

β€œIt is the standard deviation of the sample mean.”

𝑠.𝑒=𝜎/βˆšπ‘›

PS - It may not always be about means.

Q

What is Standard Deviation?

A

This is simply a summary measure of the difference between each observation and the mean observation. This also gives an estimate of the variation in the population.

Q

What is a point estimate?

A

A point estimate is a single value (a single point) which is our β€œbest guess” at the parameter we are interested in.

A good point estimate for the population mean is the sample mean.
