Introduction To Attachment Flashcards
What is attachment?
An emotional bond between two people.
What is reciprocity?
The interaction between two people where they respond to each other’s signals.
This can be seen as turn-taking.
What is an example of reciprocity?
If the caregiver were to cuddle the infant (a positive action) the infant may smile back at the caregiver (responding in another positive action).
What is interactional synchrony?
An interaction where each person mirrors the actions and behaviours of another person.
What does interactional synchrony create a sense of?
Togetherness.
What is an example of interactional synchrony?
If the caregiver holds a certain facial expression, then the infant may mimic that facial expression at the same time.
What research method would researchers have to use to test caregiver-infant interactions?
Observations.
Would a researcher use a naturalistic or controlled observation?
Naturalistic.
Why would a researcher use a naturalistic observation to study caregiver-infant interactions?
Reflects real-world behaviours that can be generalised to the rest of the population.
