Introduction To Anatomy Flashcards
What is Anatomy? Give an example of a specialty that deals with anatomy.
The study of the structure of body parts and their relationship to one another. Example: Radiology
What are the types of Anatomy?
Gross Anatomy and Microscopic Anatomy
What is Gross Anatomy? Give an Example.
Structures that are visible to the naked eye. Example: Surface Anatomy
What is Microscopic Anatomy? Give an example of a specialty that deals with this.
Structures that are too small to see with the naked eye. Example: Histology
What is Physiology?
The study of the function of body parts.
What is the Principal Complementary of Form and Function?
Both the study of Anatomy and Physiology; function follows form
What are the levels of organization? Name them from smallest to biggest.
Chemical level, cellular level, tissue level, Organ level, Organ system level, Organismal Level
What is happening on the Chemical level?
Atoms are combining to form molecules
What is happening on a cellular level?
Life begins here. Cells are built with multiple molecules to fulfill life functions.
What happens at the tissue level?
Tissues are a collection of similar cell types that perform a common function.
What happens on the Organ Level?
Organs are composed of two or more tissue types.
What happens on an Organ system level?
There are 11 organ systems. Organ systems work together to accomplish a common purpose.
What happens on the Organismal level?
Humans (me). This is the combination of all other lower levels.
What happens during homeostasis?
