Introduction to AnaPhy Flashcards
It is described as the STRUCTURE of the human body.
Anatomy
It is described as the FUNCTIONS of the human body
Physiology
What is homeostasis?
Homeostasis is the INTERNAL BALANCE within the body.
What happens when there is a loss of homeostasis?
Death can occur due to the loss of homeostasis.
What is the anatomical position?
Body is erect and facing forward, with arms at the side and palms forward.
What is the sagittal plane?
Divides the body into equal LEFT and RIGHT parts through the medial line.
What is the similarity and difference between the SAGITTAL and PARASAGITTAL planes?
SIMILARITY
- Both the sagittal and parasagittal planes divide the body into LEFT and RIGHT parts
DIFFERENCE
- Sagittal plane = divides directly in the medial line
- Parasagittal plane = DOES NOT divide the body through the medial line
What is the coronal plane?
Divides the body into FRONT and BACK.
What is the transverse plane?
Divides the body into TOP and BOTTOM
- it is also called the Horizontal Plane
The head, neck, and body are known as what parts?
AXIAL Parts
The arms and legs are known as what parts?
APPENDICULAR Parts
What is the term used to describe the FRONT of the body?
ANTERIOR (Ventral)
What is the term used to describe the BACK of the body?
POSTERIOR (Dorsal)
What is the term that is defined as towards the TOP of the body?
SUPERIOR (Cranial)
What is the term that is defined as towards the BOTTOM of the body?
INFERIOR (Caudal)
