Silence- Allows them to open up (& us to think)
Reflection- Repeat back key parts of what they are saying
Empathy- Show you are interested in what they are feeling & Express empathy
Clarification- Make sure you understand correctly and have not assumed something
Confrontation- Addressing contradictory information
Interpretation- Based on what you are telling me….
Explanation- Things that we need to tell the patient
Summary- Wraps it up and confirms objective of the interview
