Considers biological, psychological and social factors & their complex interactions in understanding health, illness and healthcare delivery

- Interpersonal experiences can affect psychological processes
- They in turn affect neural activation and physiological symptoms
What is a microsystem?
The entities that an individual comes into direct contact with (e.g. family members, peers, work environment)
What is a mesosystem?
Interactions amongst various microsystem communities (e.g. family members and peers share same community health service)
What is an exosystem?
Influences that occur indirectly when microsystem entities are affected by dynamics within their microsystems, which affect target individual
What is culturally appropriate healthcare?
Care sensitive to people’s cultural identity or heritage
What is public health?
The art and science of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting health through the organised efforts of society
