Q

List and Explain the 5 points of Calvinism.

A
  1. Total Depravity - what is the natural state of human beings when born into the world (radically depraved = at the root).
    - “since the fall, humans are enslaved to sin and by nature bent toward evil in every part.” (Isaiah 64:6, Rom. 3:9)
  2. ) Unconditional Election - God’s decision to save someone depends on his sovereign choice, not on anything in that person.
    - - OT: Deut. 7:7-8; Eph. 1:3-14
  3. Limited Atonement - Christ’s atonement was intended by God to secure the redemption of the elect alone. (extent of the atonement, depends on the intent)
    - OT: Leviticus 16, Matthew 1:21
  4. Irresistible Grace = God’s special redemptive grace infallibly secures the salvation of those who receive it.
    - Unconditional election focuses on God’s end; Irresistible Grace focus on God’s means
    - OT: Ezekiel 36:26-27; John 6:37-40
  5. Perseverance of the Saints = God’s special redemptive grace will keep genuine converts faithful to Christ until the end.
    - OT: Jeremiah 32:38-40; Philippians 1:6
