Introduction. Flashcards
Which T cells can help direct adaptive immunity?
T helper cells.
T helper cells have what CD molecule?
CD4+.
What is the lifespan of a T cell?
They can last for years and some can even last for decades.
What defines the different T cells?
The surface molecules they express e.g. CD-4+ or CD-8+.
What dictates the function of a T cell?
The cell surface molecules.
How many epitopes can a TCR bind to?
Only a single epitope.
How many TCR’s can be found on a T cell?
A T cell can have multiple TCR’s but they all bind to the same epitope.
Are T cells antigen sepcific?
Yes, as they can only bind to one antigen.
What is the 1st thing that happens when a T cell is activated?
It produces offspring that have the same TCR.
Are T cells ever secreted?
No, they are always membrane bound.
What CD molecule is found on cytotoxic T cells?
CD-8+ T cells.
What is always expressed on all mature T cells?
CD-3.
What are the 3 CD molecules that can be expressed on T cells?
CD-3.
CD-4.
CD-8.
When are the CD molecules added to a naive T cell?
After they leave the thymus.
What is the function of the CD-3 molecule once the T cell has bound to an antigen?
It transmits a signal into the cell to activate the cell.
