Introduction Flashcards
Name some components of the innate immune system?
Macrophages, granulocytes, NKC and Tissue resident cells
Name two components of the adaptive immune system?
T lymphocytes and B lymphocytes
What determines which linegage cells go down from heamatopoietic stem cells in the bone marrow?
soluble factors, environment, receptors on their surface and Transcription factors found in certain cell types
what are the two main lineages of cells?
Myeloid and lymphoid
Name the cells of the Myeloid lineage?
Dendritic, neutrophil, eosinophil, basophil, mast cell, monocyte, platelets and erythrocytes
name the cells part of the lymphoid lineage?
B cells, T cells, and NK cells
What does philia mean
to many
what does penia mean ?
to little e.g immunocompromised
What is the role of the neutrophil?
They are phagocytitic and play an important role in inflammation. They can release granules and neutrophil extracellular traps (NET)
What is the word for neutrophil recruitment through cells?
diapedesis
define acute inflammation and chronic ?
acute is 6 weeks
name the two types of T cells and their roles
CD8 cells that are involved in the destruction of virus infected cells, recognise MHC1 and produce granzymes what cause apoptosis of the target cell. CD4 cells are helper cells and recognise the MHC11 cells, these help B cells and CD8 T cells.
What do Th1 CD4 cells do ?
they produce a cytotoxic cell response and can be induced by IFN-gamma.
Th2 CD4 cells
they lead to an extracellular response for example they cause the release of soluble factors such as antibodies from B cells
What response do Th17 CD4 cells produce ?
They lead to the recruitment of neutrophils to the area for example in allergy and for parasites
