Its an area concerned with the safety health and welfare of people engaged in work/ employment.
Also defined as being concerned with physical, mental and social well being of workers in relation to their work and working environment his/her adjustment to work and the adjustment of work to him/her.
• Ergonomics
Fitting the job to the workers. Involves designing tools/machines, layout, methods and environment to achieve efficiency to both man and machines
Hazard
refers to the potential to cause harm
Occupational Disease
A disease caused directly by a person’s work/ occupation
Work place
A setting where someone spends most of their time. Exposes them to hazards
Aims/objectives of Occupational Health
- Promotion of physical, mental and social well being of workers
- Prevention from harm caused by their working conditions

Definition of the industrial hygiene
Industrial hygiene is recognized as that science (or art) devoted to the recognition, evaluation, and control of those environmental factors or stresses-chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomic that may cause sickness, impaired health, or significant discomfort to employees or residents of the community
