Introduction Flashcards
Mrs. Nadia
What is sustainable architecture?
Sustainable architecture is the ability to meet the needs of today without compromising and decreasing the future generation to meet their own needs.
Why is sustainable architecture important?
1- Environmental protection.
2- Energy & cost efficient.
3- Conserve & restore natural resources.
4- Lower building maintenance.
5- Reduce waste.
6- Water efficiency.
What are the basic human needs?
What makes the earth habitable?
1- Sunlight
2- Water
3- Air
4- Food
5- Temperature
What are the two types of natural resources?
1- Renewable Resources.
2- Non-renewable resources
What are renewable resources?
are resources that almost never end, and when they do, they get restored quickly and easily, naturally. Examples of these resources are:
1- Biomass Energy
2. solar energy
3. hydropower
4. geothermal energy
5. wind energy
What is non-renewable energy?
Non-renewable energy is the enerygy that might end, cannot be restored naturally. They are thought to be “finite” resources. examples of these resources are:
1. fossil fuel
2. natural gas
3. coal
4. nuclear
What’s the problem of earth?
Overconsumption. We consume more than the earth can provide, at a faster pace than the earth provides.
What is the solution to overconsumption?
The R’s
1. Rethink
2. Reuse
3. Recycle
4. Refuse
5. Repair
6. Regift
7.Reduce
8. Recover
What are the three pillars of sustainable development?
- People
- Planet
- Prosperity
