(Structuralists wanted to understand the parts of consciousness).

1. There is a limited amount of energy.
2. If energy is blocked in one channel it gets expressed in another.
3. The mind functions to achieve a state of quiescence.
NOTE: The releasing of energy was called Catharsis.

A
- Looked at psychodynamic psychology.
- Had asked some of the right questions.
- Believed that neurotic problems are caused by unconscious conflicts left over, often from early childhood. (e.g. wanting to kill your fathers to possess our mothers).

Psychoanalysis
A
- Is a therapeutic approach and theory of mind developed by Sigmund Freud that emphasizes the role of the unconscious in shaping behavior, thoughts, and feelings. It seeks to uncover repressed memories, desires, and traumas through techniques like free association and dream analysis.
