Introduction Flashcards
How does the NC PT Practice Act define diagnosis?
a label encompassing a cluster of signs and symptoms, syndromes or categories
What are the 2 main types of problem solving methods?
Intuitive and analytical (dep on working memory and generating multiple hypotheses)
define probabilistic clinical reasoning
assessing likelihood of a clinical hyoptheses based on stats, its approximated
define case-based reasoning
knowledge of how to proceed stored in a “script”
define narrative reasoning
understanding patients’ stories to gain insight into their experiences, beliefs, feelings ans health behaviors
what are the 3 primary types of diagnostic errors?
No-fault
System error (technical failure or organizational failure)
Cognitive Errors
define aggregate bias
clinician is aware of supporting research and disregards it
define anchoring
clinician takes a hypothesis and runs with it, disregarding additional data
define commission and omission bias
commission- if I don’t do it NOW, everything will go to shit.
Omission- get somebody else to do. it (afrain of worsening situation)
confirmation bias
interpreting all new info as data that confirms their hypothesis
outcome bias
discounting reality in favor of best case scenario
search satisfying
missing secondary pathology since they are to focused on the primary
emotional based practice
using a test because you like it even when there is research negating it
what are the cognitive dispositions to respond for probabilistic reasoning
base-rate neglect (ignoring incidence/prevalence data)
playing the odds (skipping screening bc a pathology is rare)
what are the cognitive dispositions to respond for causal reasoning?
faulty causation
