Governance
A form of decision making that involves a wide range of institutions, networks, and relationships
Government
The activity or system of governing a political unit.
The set of institutions that exercise authority and make the rules of a political unit.
Civil society
the realm of the autonomous groups and associations found between the state and the individual. e.g pressure groups, businesses, trade unions, churches, and community groups.
Westminster model
A form of government exemplified by the British political system in which P/ment is sovereign, the executive and legislature are fused, and political power is centralised
Gov min bound by collective responsibility
local gov is weak
Single party gov is norm
gov held to account through elections
Is the Westminster model desirable?
YES- representative and responsible Gov is strong and effective Clear choice between gov and opp defends basic civil liberties
NO-
elective dictatorship- few checks and balances
decisions arent taken close to the people
no strong rights culture
