Epithelial cells: line hollow organs
Muscle cells: contractile
Nerve: communication
Connective tissue: structural strength and defense

How do samples present under a microscope?
A
Thin tissue slices are transparent
You cannot always see cell boundaries
Plane of section affects appearance

How are most sections stained?
A
Hematoxylin: Basic dye that stains acids purple (DNA and RNA)
Eosin: Acidic dye that stains bases pink (most proteins)
