Intro To Statistics Flashcards
Population and sample, descriptive Vs infernal stats, variables, statistics and parameters, Random distribution
What is a population?
Set of all the objects of interest for the statistic being analysed.
What is a sample?
A selection or subset of data taken from the population.
What is Descriptive Statistics?
Describes and summarises a set of data as it currently is.
What are Inferential statistics?
Draws inferences from, and makes predictions about, populations using a sample of data from that population.
What is a variable?
A characteristic or value that can be measured or counted.
What is an independent variable?
When the value of one variable does not affect the value of the other.
What is a dependent variable?
If the value of one affects the value of the other.
What is a random variable?
A variable that takes a number of different values with different probabilities.
What is probability distribution?
Random variables taken together.
What is normal distribution?
Symmetric.
