What is psychophysiology?
It is the study of relations between psychological manipulations and resulting physiological responses.
What components make up the nervous system?
Central NS - brain, spinal cord, nerves
Peripheral NS - sensory neurons, ganglia (clusters of neurons)
- Somatic NS - voluntary, consists of nerves that connect the brain and spinal cord with muscles and sensory receptors on the skin
Autonomic NS - involuntary. Regulates certain body processes such as blood pressure, and breathing
-> Parasympathetic - rest and digest
-> Sympathetic - fight or flight
How can we measure the central nervous system?
EEG, ERP
How can we measure the autonomic nervous system?
HR, BP, EDA
How can we measures the somatic nervous system?
EMG, EOG
