Intro To Pharmacology Flashcards
Define Pharmacology.
The study of substances that interact with living systems through chemical processes , especially binding to regulatory molecules and activating or inhibiting normal body processes .
Toxicology?
Is the branch of pharmacology that deals with the undesirable effects of chemicals on living systems , from individual cells to humans to complex ecosystems.
What is Pharmacogenomics ?
- Aka Pharmacogenetics - study of the genetic variations that cause differences in drug response among individuals or populations.
Distinguish between chemical antagonists and osmotic agents .
Chemical antagonists are those drugs that may interact directly with other drugs whereas osmotic agents interact almost exclusively with water molecules.
Distinguish between Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics.
Pharmacokinetics refers to the activities of the body on the drug while pharmacodynamics refers to the activities of the drug on the body.
