Intro to Pathophysiology Flashcards
Inflammatory disease
usually secondary to primary disease such as infection or autoimmune
Ischemic
Interference in blood supply, and therefore oxygen, robs cells of their fuel –> injury/death of cells and tissues
Immunologic
Overreaction by the immune system or underreaction.
Autoimmune disease
desctruction of one’s own tissues by antibodies produced by one’s own immune system.
Infectious disease
caused by invasion and colonization with pathogenic microorganisms —> bacteria, viruses, fungi
Neoplastic
uncontrolled growth of an abnormal cell line.
Metabolic disease
upset in the biochemical reactions that govern body processes or metabolism.
Nutritional disease
malnutrition can lead to insufficient resources for the body.
Congenital disease
born with it – came from fetal development
Idiopathic disease
unknown cause
Iatrogenic disease
the result of a treatment
Sequela
the aftermath of a disease –> PID may lead to sterilization down the line.
Example of endogenous
Diabetes
Example of exogenous
infection
Parenchymal cells
Those cells that perform a fuction
