Q

In mammalian cells there are 5 metabolic pathways that provide energy. what are they

A

1.Glycolysis, breaks down glucose to the 3 carbon compounds lactate or pyruvate.
2.TCA cycle which converts acetyl-coa into co2
3.pentose phosphate pathway which converts g6p into pentose phosphate and reduces nadp coenzyme.
4.Oxidation of fatty acids which converts them into acetyl-coa and reduces coenzymes.
5.Oxidative phosphorylation in which oxygen is used to oxidise coenzymes which are reduced in the 4 other pathways, with the production of water and atp.

Q

Why after training for 5k does the person feel great, hot but cooling down, not out of breath

A

Fat becomes a more important fuel, carbs become less important, less lactate production

Q

Why after training for 5k does the person have greater oxygen transport, muscle has more mitochondria, more enzymes
