achieving one’s full potential, including creative activities

How does trust vs. mistrust affect mental health ?
infancy
- forming attachment with your mother lays the foundation for later trust in others
How does autonomy vs. shame/doubt affect mental health ?
early childhood
- gaining some basic control of self and environment
- like potty training
How does initiative vs. guilt affect mental health ?
preschool
- becoming purposeful and directed
- like helping set the table

- screening with prompt and effective treatment
What is tertiary prevention in mental health ?
- rehabilitation
- preservation of individual
(measures taken with someone who already has a illness/disease but want to prevent further damage)
What is cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) ?
evaluation and modification of thoughts and behaviors
- depression, eating, anxiety/panic
- short term
- want the pt to change their thought processes
What is behavioral therapy ?
correction of learned maladaptive behavior
- PTSD, OCD, panic disorder
- learning how to change behaviors
