intro to endo Flashcards
what is endodontics?
the clinical discipline that deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of endodontic disease
what is endodontology?
the science concerned with the study of form, function, health of, injuries to and diseases of, the dental pulp
why may endodontic treatment be carried out?
because the pulp is irreversibly damaged or electively to allow placement of a post-retained crown
how may microbes access the pulp?
micro leakage, tooth surface loss. physical trauma, dental factors (e.g. crown prep, inadequate water spray etc), perio disease, per treatment and caries
how far away can bacteria be to cause inflammation of the pulp?
0.5mm
what are the 4 types of non-carious tooth surface loss?
attrition, abrasion, erosion, abfraction
why may micro leakage occur?
due to poor adaptation of materials
