Intro To Drives Flashcards
Pitch
Distance between two identical points of adjacent cogs or teeth
Pitch Circle
An imaginary circle that intersects the teeth of a gear at the actual points where the teeth mesh with another gear
Dedendum
Depth of the tooth between the pitch circle and the minor diameter
Addendum
The height of the tooth above the pitch circle
Pressure Angle
The angle between the line of force and a line at right angles to the center line of two gears at the pitch point
Backlash
It is the amount by which the width of a tooth space exceeds the thickness of the engaging component
Safety Factor
Ratio of the load at which a product fails to the load that is usually applied
Service Factor
A measure of periodically overload capacity at which a machine can operate without damaging
Torque
Product of force (F) and the perpendicular distance (r)
Friction Force
Product of normal force and friction coefficient
Angular Velocity
Rate of change of angular displacement over time
What is the side that goes into the driver elements?
Tension Side
What is the side that goes away from the driver elements?
Slack Side
If the contact is between two rotating elements…
- the velocity at the point of contact is the same
- the point of contact force is the same
If two rotating elements are connected by a shaft…
the angular velocity is the same
