Intro to Biomechanics and Kinematics Flashcards
1
Q
Definition of biomechanics
A
The application of mechanics to the study of living systems
2
Q
What are mechanics?
A
Classified into three categories:
- Kinematics: defining movement without reference to the forces that cause the movement
- Kinetics: An analysis of the forces that cause movement
- Energetics: Applying concepts of work, energy and power to human movement
3
Q
Kinematic Measures
A
Time (seconds)
Displacement (m)
Velocity (m/s)
Acceleration (m/s^2)
4
Q
Angular Kinematics
A
This is how people move (and all other vertebrate animals)
- Time
- Angular Displacement (degrees or radians)
- Angular Velocity (degrees/s or radians/s)
- Angular Acceleration (degrees/s^2 or radians/s^2)
5
Q
Average Angular Velocity
A
(Pheta2 - Pheta1) / (t2-t1)
6
Q
Average velocity
A
- Can either be deltaV/deltaT
- Or (V1+V2)/2
- So when we start at rest V1=0 and therefore V2= 2*averageV
7
Q
Projectile Motion
A
dy = v1*t + 1/2(gt^2)
