Biomechanical/biomedical approach
in the treatment of physical dysfunction employs the priciples of fixing the physical impairments of the person. It also looks at physics related to forced, levers, and torque, and involves assessment of both static and dynamic movement.
Applies principles of human movement to occupational performance.

change client variables to establish a skill or ability that has not yet developed or to restore a skill or ability that has been impaired
often focuses on deficits. (should not be used on its own) (decrease ROM, strength, sensation, etc)
Modalities are always functional. helps them make a fist to hold their toothbrush.
Rehabilitative approach
seeks to promote independence despite impairment/limitation.
focuses on how we can get them as independent as possible.
help them to restore identity- get them back to who they were before the injury as soon as possible or to function at their highest level to succeed in life.
Interventions:
Modification/adaptation- built up handles, pen grips,
Create/prevent-pt. education, sensory rich environ.
Maintain: patient, family, community education.
examples::: wheelchair selection, technology adaptations, Environmental changes, adaptation to task performance.
