Health Care System
A group of people, agencies, and/or institutions that provide health care services to individuals in a variety of settings.
Health Care Professional
The individuals who wish to care for the people seeking to improve their health status.
Ambulatory Care Center
Centers that provide health care consultation, treatment, and medication using advanced medical technology; also known as community centers.
Acute Care Hospitals
Institutions that provide care for individuals who have a disease that comes on quickly or that lasts for a short period of time.
Skilled Nursing Facilities
Care for patients who require the skills of a licensed personnel such as a physical therapist or an occupational therapist.
Assisted Living Facilities
Care that bridges the gap between home care and nursing homes by providing a homelike environment.
Hospice Care
Care focused on the physical and emotional needs of patients who have terminal illnesses that will usually result in death within six months or less.
Home Care
supportive care provided in the patient’s home.

Affordable Care Act
An act signed into law in March 2010 by president Barrack Obama with the goal of increasing the quality of health insurance in the United States
Medicare
Health insurance plan provided by the government for people age 65 and older
Deductibles
Minimum amount that a person must pay out of pocket before insurance will pay any expenses to the health care provider
Copayment
Predetermined amount defined by the health insurer that must be paid each time a health service is assessed
Coinsurance
Refers to the splitting the cost between individuals and their insurance carrier
Tricare
Type of health insurance dedicated to honoring those who served or are currently serving in the military
Medicare Part A
Plan you’re automatically enrolled in when you apply for Medicare; hospital insurance plan
Include inpatient hospital coverage, skilled nursing care, nursing home care, and hospice care
Medicare Part B
Covers supplies that are medically necessary to treat your health condition; medical insurance plan
Includes outpatient services such as lab tests and visits to the doctor, durable medical equipment (DME) or any medical equipment used in the home to aid in a better quality of living. Can also cover ambulance and preventative services
Medicare Part C
Ran by private insurance companies
Medicare Advantage Plan, enables beneficiaries to choose a plan that includes supplementary insurance. Covers out of pocket cost that are not covered by Parts A and B. Beneficiaries must participate in part A and B to qualify
Includes choice of prescription drug coverage (or not) often at no additional cost, combines hospital stays with coverage for Dr visits
Medicare Part D
Medicare prescription drug benefit, the US federal government program that subsidizes the cost of prescription drugs and prescription drug insurance premiums for medical beneficiaries
